SPONSOR POST – Fireweed Zinc (CVE:FWZ) is advancing its Macmillan Pass project in the Yukon, said Fireweed Zinc’s CEO and director Brandon Macdonald in an interview with Wallace earlier this month.
A 2018 resource at the Macmillan Pass project was limited to just its Tom & Jason deposits, not the End Zone or Boundary Zone, both of which show signicant upside.
Much of the large land package remains little explored using modern exploration techniques. There is a massive potential of Boundary Zone, which shows both scale potential (230m true-width of 4.1% Zn) and grade potential (6.4m).
Fireweed is backed by an executive team that has done this before, the Discovery Group. It’s an alliance of public companies focused on the advancement of mineral exploration and mining projects. Noted exploration success, Great Bear Resources is allied with the Discovery Group.
Macdonald said Discovery Group has had tremendous success in the Yukon. Fireweed’s chairman, John Robins, sold his previous Yukon junior, Kaminak Gold, to Goldcorp for about $520 million four years ago.
“That was a massive win for the Discovery Group. That was also a massive win for the Yukon as well, bringing in a major to build a project,” said Macdonald. “We’re familiar with Yukon. It’s a group that’s had a lot of success.”
While precious metals and battery material metals are hogging the spotlight, zinc holds a particular distinction.
“People generally think zinc is perhaps a bit boring and not the sexiest of metals, but the largest single-asset pre-production take-out in the last five years was South32’s CAN$2.1 billion purchase of Arizona Mining,” said Macdonald, commenting on the 2018 transaction, which saw South32 pick up Arizona Mining’s Hermosa Project located in Santa Cruz County, Arizona.
Macdonald anticipates lots of news flow in the next 12 months as drill results are made available.
“What’s Boundary West look like. What’s the continuity between Boundary East? [As we] work towards drilling that off and getting a native resources on it, that’s going to mean a lot of news flow towards both a new global resource for the project and an updated economic study.”
