One side of the coin features two elephants walking through the tall grass of the African wilderness. Birds are seen flying overhead, with tall trees featured in the background. The opposite side of the coin features the heraldic symbol of the Somalia Republic.

The reverse side of the coin bears the aforementioned image of the Somalia Elephants. Engraved above their heads is the phrase African Wildlife, while Elephant and the weight, purity, and metal are engraved below the image. The cats rest on two crossing arrows with olive branches. The Bavarian Central Mint is located in the city of Munich, Germany. The mint is one of four German mints responsible for the production of commemorative and circulation coins.
