On the obverse of Mexican Silver Libertad coins, youll find the image of Winged Victory. This symbol arose from the Mexican War of Independence against Spain in the 1820s and represents the successful overthrow of Spains colonial rule. Winged Victory holds the wreath of self-governance above her head and the broken chains of servitude in his left hand.
Winged Victory stands 17-feet tall in real life at the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. The statue was erected in 1921 to mark the 100th anniversary of Mexican independence and coincided with the release of a gold coin featuring her image as well.
The reverse of all 2019 1/2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins includes the image of the Mexican coat of arms. This design is the modern image that includes an eagle sitting on the arm of a cactus as it battles with a serpent. It is surrounded by the phrase Estados Unidos Mexicanos above and the wreath below.
The Mexican Mint is located in Mexico City and was founded in 1535. The mint was originally created by Spanish conquistadors to refine gold and silver in the region before shipping it back to Europe.
