This right-profile portrait of Her Majesty was developed in 2002 by Susanna Blunt and released on Canadian coinage in 2003. This is the fourth-generation design used on Canadian coins and the first since Her Majestys father, King George VI, to feature a monarch without a crown.
The reverse of 2019 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins features Walter Otts iconic sugar maple leaf design. The maple leaf has been used as a symbol of Canada dating back before nationhood to the French Canadian provinces of the mid-18th century.
