The Chinese Mint first issued the Silver Panda in 1983, but for the first three years, the coin was offered as a proof quality specimen with .900 silver content and a weight well below 1 Troy oz at 27 Grams in total. There was no Silver Panda in 1986 and the 1987 issue was again a proof-quality coin with 1 Troy oz of .925 silver.

It wasnt until 1989 that the Chinese Mint introduced a reliable Chinese Silver Panda coin with a standardized 1 Troy oz weight and a purity of .999 silver. Other than the design on the obverse, nothing would change in the series until the release of the 2016 Silver Pandas and the introduction of new Gram weights.

On the obverse of 2019 30 Gram Chinese Silver Panda Coins is the image of a Giant Panda family. In this design, a large mother panda holds her young cub wrapped in her arms as the two gaze at each other with a sense of love.
