Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first two human beings to set foot on the moon. Six hours after landing on the moons surface, Armstrong descended the ladder from the Eagle landing module to take mankinds first steps in space. Aldrin and Armstrong would spend a total of 21.5 hours on the moon.
On the obverse of the 1 oz Apollo 11 Moment of Silence Silver Round is the image of Buzz Aldrin in his lunar space suit as he stands within a region of the moon known as the Sea of Tranquility. With the Earth visible in the background, Aldrin stands still on the barren surface of the moon. Engravings around the outer edge of the design field capture Aldrins request at the moment: I Would Like to Request a Few Moments of Silence.
The reverse side of Apollo 11 Moment of Silence Silver Rounds features a design based on the mission patch of the Apollo 11 astronauts. The lunar landing module was nicknamed the Eagle and the design on this side depicts an American bald eagle landing on the surface of the moon with an olive branch in its talons, a sign that Americans came in peace to this interstellar body.
North American Mint is the production facility of the Apollo 11 Series silver rounds for sale. There are a total of eight different designs on the obverse of these rounds, each design capturing a different stage of the mission and reflecting the total number of days the crew spent in space.
