The Allegories is a silver round collection from the Germania Mint that depicts the national personification of historic lands. The term allegory itself refers, in this case, to a representative figure that personifies a nation, land, or general place. Germania and Britannia were terms used by the Romans to describe their provinces at the height of the empires influence, but were eventually taken on by the people as symbols of pride and use in the personification of that honor.
On the obverse of 2019 1 oz Germania The Allegories Britannia & Germania Silver Rounds these two powerful women meet. The two extend a hand to one another, with Britannia wielding her traditional trident, Roman helmet with plume, and the shield bearing the cross of St. George from the Union Jack. Germania has a shield with the double-headed eagle of the German Empire, a sword resting in its scabbard at her side, and a laurel crown.
Britannia is popular with numismatists already as the staple of Britains major bullion program. Germania is a similarly powerful female figure. She is most commonly associated with the German Empire of the Romantic Era in the mid-19th century.
The reverse face of the 2019 Germania The Allegories Britannia & Germania Silver Rounds includes a shield design representing the shared morals and noble values of mankind, many of which are still held in high regard today. The double-headed eagle in Roman mythology was used to guard doors and the wild boar is a symbol of might and power.
