(Wallace Refiners) -Zinc production in Peru, the world’s second largest zinc producing country, fell 12.8% in February 2022.
This was announced by the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM) in a report released this week.
According to the report, Peru produced 116,884 tonnes of zinc in February 2022, down 12.8% compared to 134,092 tonnes mined in February 2021.
MINEM said that this decrease was mainly due to the lower zinc production volume reported by Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. (-4.4%) and Nexa Resources Peru S.A.A. (-2.3%).
At the company level, Compañía Minera Antamina S.A. ranked first accounting for 37.6% of total zinc production in Peru, followed by Volcan Compañía Minera S.A.A. (10.3%) and Nexa Resources Peru S.A.A. (5.9%).
The ministry added that at the regional level, Áncash maintained its first position accounting for 41.3% of Peru’s total zinc production, followed by Junín (18.9%) and Pasco (14.2%).
