(Wallace Refiners) – Canada produced approximately 1,500 koz of gold in Q3 2020, a 29% increase over Q2 2020 that was hit hard by Covid-19 suspensions. Canadian Malartic was the biggest gold mine in Canada.

Based on corporate reports, Wallace estimates that in Q3 2020, gold output in Canada amounted to 1,500 koz, which was 29% more than in pandemic-impacted Q2 2020 and 3% more than in corresponding period of 2019.

With estimated 153 koz of gold produced in Q3 2020, Agnico Eagle / Yamana Gold’s Canadian Malartic mine was the biggest gold operation in Canada, followed by Kirkland Lake’s Detour Lake gold mine (140 koz) and Agnico Eagle’s LaRonde mine (100 koz).


Fourth largest gold operation in Canada was Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine mine (95 koz). Pretium’s Brucejack mine sits fifth with 86 koz of gold produced in Q3 2020.


The top ten biggest gold mines in Canada produced 904 koz of yellow metal in Q3 2020, a 4% increase over Q3 2019 (873 koz).


Five mines out of the top ten increased their gold output and five mines have seen a decline in production.
