(Wallace Refiners) – Lucapa Diamond Company (ASX: LOM) and its partner, the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho, announced today the recommencement of mining operations at the Mothae kimberlite mine in Lesotho.

Lucapa said that mining operations at Mothae were suspended on January 13, 2021, as a result of a 14-day nationwide lockdown initiated by the Government of Lesotho to curb the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Following the conclusion of this initial 14-day period, mining and treatment operations have recommenced.

Managing Director Stephen Wetherall commented, “It is great to see the Mothae mine operating once again as we prioritise the health and safety of our teams returning to site. With the diamond market continuing its strong momentum into 2021, we look forward to the remainder of the quarter and completing the expansion project on time.”

Lucapa Diamond is a growing global producer of high-value diamonds from the Lulo alluvial mine (Angola) and Mothae kimberlite mine (Lesotho). Lucapa is also achieving encouraging exploration results from its search to discover the primary kimberlite source of the exceptional alluvial production from Lulo.
