(Wallace Refiners) – The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics of Peru (INEI) has announced today that the domestic mining and hydrocarbons sector increased 15.37% in March 2021 compared to the same month of 2020.
INEI said that this increase was driven by a significant improvement in the metallic mining subsector (20.44%), due to a higher production of tin (110.3%), iron (76.5%), silver (36.1%), zinc (26.0%), molybdenum (21.5%), copper (19.6%) and gold (3.5%).
On the contrary, the hydrocarbons subsector decreased by 10.08%, due to a lower level of extraction of crude oil (-31.1%) and natural gas liquids (-7.2%), while natural gas output increased by 18.2%.
INEI noted that the state of health emergency was declared in Peru in March 2020 – the reference period for March 2021 – as a result of the COVID-2019 pandemic.
